Crochet bowls

Lately I've been working on some crochet bowls, it took a while to get the hang of it so I practiced some different shapes and sizes. The best thing about crochet being that if you go wrong, you can just unravel and start again!
I've been using Tektek tshirt yarn, which is made in Portugal, leftover from garment production. Each different roll of yarn varies in thickness and texture, so if you want to make a few matching things it is best to get a large roll so that you'll have a big quantity that'll be consistent. I found this tutorial from The Makery really useful in getting started. You can buy the yarn from there or else from eBay.

Sewing Machine Table Refurb

Having had this lovely but rather dark sewing machine table (which I inherited from my Nana) in my sitting room for about a year, I decided it was time to take the plunge and paint it a completely different colour! Unsurprisingly the colour was green.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Florence

The paint I used was Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Florence. I did 2 coats, then sanded the edges to give the table a distressed look. Then I waxed it using Annie Sloan soft wax, and then it was done! lovely. Now I must figure out the vintage sewing machine and do some sewing! Unfortunately I did manage to paint a bit of the curtains.

Cute little air plants

Whilst visiting the Eden Project last week I bought some super cute Airplants (Tillandsias) as I have wanted some of them for ages! You can buy them online as well, from lovetillys. I planted one in a vintage Hornsea egg cup (I had wanted to find a use for these for a while!) and one in a latte bowl from Anthropologie. Then I put some pebbles I had collected from the beach around them, super :)

Owl Screen Print - Green and blue

Behold my latest Screen print creation, the Green and Blue Caslon owl, do you think he is cute?

This little chap has a body made from characters from the Caslon font, a serif font originally designed by William Caslon in the 1700s, and printed in black.  The rest of him is printed using bright green and cyan acrylic inks overprinted to create more colours.

This is a limited edition of 9 prints, but there are other colours to come.
You can buy it in my folksy shop; welaughindoors now! Also if you like what you see and would like to be kept up to date with my latest screen printing activities why not become a fan of mine on facebook :)
